- Applying signal processing and optimization techniques to magnetic resonance imaging engineering research
- Focus on RF pulse design for fast imaging on multi-coil excitation systems at high field
- Developing optimized pulses that minimize energy deposition (i.e., the specific absorption rate) in subjects
- Optimization of the weighting and placement of "spokes" in k-space to improve thin-slice excitation and mitigate B₁⁺ inhomogeneity

- Developed an automated system that minimizes the number of additions for a multiplierlessly-implemented transform under the constraint of a particular quality measure
- Applied approach to transforms within MP3 and JPEG decoders, cost-minimizing them while maintaining output quality: fewer arithmetic operations per transform algorithm led to faster decoding times and reduced power consumption
- Example: for a transform within an MP3 decoder, the system produces an approximate transform algorithm requiring only one-half the number of additions of the original while still complying with the MP3 standard
